As Christians we talk about how we are supposed to pray and seek God for who to vote for in elections. But this is not what I see people doing. I see people following the political process through the media, news shows, Facebook posts, watching the debates, etc. We justify this behavior, telling ourselves we need to learn as much as we can about the candidates and the issues so we will know how to vote.
But what happens is by the time you get ready to vote, you have already made up your mind and are just going to God in prayer to get his confirmation on your decision. If he told you to vote differently, you would not be able to hear this.
What would happen if you avoid as much news as you can about the candidates and issues, learn as little as possible and then go into prayer. Take a fast from politics for a few weeks before the election. Now you are like a blank slate that can easily hear the voice of God without the influence of months and months of listening to political rhetoric. And whatever the Holy Spirit tells you, you will willingly do, trusting that God knows the future and has your best interest in mind.
